Unease and fear had spread throughout the Kilate planet for nearly a month. It had started when the leader of the Hirazawa Clan, Rekamo-Ziu, had massacred the whole clan, only leaving his youngest grandchild alive. Rekamo-Ziu had not explained his crime and had no denial about them. The leader for the Clan had willingly admitted that he was the murderer. He had put up no fight when he was discovered holding the bloody sword of the murders, with his son’s and his son’s wife’s body at his feet. No questions were answered, no words were spoken other then him saying he was guilty, and no emotions were shown.
Many were in denial that Rekamo-Ziu was the true murderer. Some protested that he must have been controlled, or insisted there was a look alike. However, within a two weeks time, investigators had disproved any theories and Rekamo-Ziu was sentence to the highest form of execution.
However, the night before the sentence was to be carried out, Rekamo-Ziu managed to escape. A rippled of fear spread throughout the planet as the hunt for Rekamo-Ziu began, along with the examination of how Rekamo-Ziu could have escaped. Within a week’s time, suspicions that King William had helped became to arise. However, when people tried to mount further investigations into the King, they discovered that in a recent bill that was pasted for economic reasons, it prohibited any investigations of the current King for the matter of Rekamo-Ziu’s escape.
Angry, distrust and suspicion feels grew towards the king, causing the whole planet to be in an unease fearful state. Many saw King William’s actions as criminal and were outrage that no one was going to hold him a count able. Several tried to pull back the bill, but have been unsuccessful, so far. Most started to view King William as the Criminal King who let loose the mass murderer Rekamo-Ziu, even though Rekamo-Ziu had yet to be even sighted since his escaped.
It was part of this fear that had caused a harsh punishment to befall on a young thief girl. Luck had run out for her when she had tried to steal from a wealthy merchant. She was caught and thrown into a tiny cell, where her fate was quickly debated on and a decision was made within an hour. She was to be sent away to a work camp and what happens afterwards, none of the debaters cared.
It was unusual to send such a young child to a work camp, but after explaining their reasons, reasons that grew out of fear and paranoia, people were convince and the proper paper work was started and nearly complete when the girl’s luck returned.
A middle age man, wearing clothes that were embroider with the Dragons of Legend, came and requested information about any young, waste of space children. Answering truthfully, the girl was brought up and the man became rather interested. Although he was first deny the custody of the child, the man was able to convince them to his point of view by pointing out how hard these times are now and how a little extra money would not hurt anyone.
After the bribe was paid, the girl was giving to the man who barely step foot outside of the building before teleporting off with her. There was only a moment of questioning the man’s motivation for wanting a girl, of how his behavior was odd such as how he did not even speak to the girl and his direct bribery, before people blew him off as a freak and went back to their work.
Sakti had been frightened for the whole time, nearly scared stiff. She had heard what happens to those that are caught. Sent away to never return, to rot in small cells, to be fed to giant monsters, to work until the bone shows through the skin. However, through her experience on the streets, she had learn to mask most of her emotions, causing her to look like an apathetic little girl, instead of the frighten one she was.
The wait in the small cell felt like hours to her. It took her only a few minutes to examine the whole cell; there was not much to be found. A mattress pushed off to one of the sidewalls, nothing under the mattress, nothing else. Only her fright kept her from succumbing to boredom as she pondered her fate. She remembered that one of the men had said they would be back. So, did that mean this was not the final destination for her? Or did he lie and was she to be stuck in this small cell for the rest of her life?
The man was not lying. He came back and this time with another man, who Sakti quickly became convince was a royal joker, or something of that sort. The man’s clothes were more brightly colored than any other she had ever seen and the shirt was decorated with several dragons, all doing some kind of dance around each other. His hair was a bright red and was neatly slick back over his head.
The strange man did not even speak, it was the other one that told Sakti that she was going with the stranger and all he said about the matter was, “get up, you are going with him.” The girl was tempted to disobey, looking from one man to the other, with close to a glare forming on her face when she decided against it. If she obey, then she may be able to escape later.
However, the strange man had no desirer to let the young girl get away, so the moment she was on her feet, his hand was gasped around her wrist. The grip was tight and controlling, forcing the girl to stay close to him. The girl fought little against the grip, planning to put up a fight after they were away from the building. Her plan was thwarted though, the moment they stepped outside, in the view of the large city, seeing the people rushing about and hearing the yells of business man, the playful screams of kids and the mournful howls of hungry strays, it all vanished.
The scene vanished before her eyes, as if she merely blinked and before she could even realize the absence of everything, a new scene unfolded before. The stranger and herself were now in a short hallway, lit with torches that produced a yellowish glow and no smoke. One end of the hallway, the closest one to them, ended in a dead end, with only two doors on either side of the wall. The other end turned off to the right, presumably leading into another hallway.
“Where are we?” Sakti asked, the sudden disappearance and reappearance unnerved her a bit, bringing back some of her fears which she had temporally forgotten about because of the appearance of the strange man and her fleeting thoughts of trying to escape.
The man did not answer. He merely reached out and opened the door in front of them and pushed her into the room as he only spoke one word, “in.” With that, he closed the door, leaving the girl alone in the room.
Sakti stared at the closed door for only a moment in fear and confusion before looking around at rest of the room. It was plain and clean. The only other thing that was in the room beside her self, were three cushions. Each were beautifully made, with the usual bright colors which gave the yellow golden tinted room more color to it. After quickly examining them, and wonder if they were to serve as a kind of bed, she looked around the rest of them. Which proved to be pointless. There was nothing else. The room was made of the same yellowish brick as the hallway, light came from a similar torch that was out of reach, and it was clean.
The more Sakti started to realize how clean the room was, the more she started to feel a bit out of place. She would never remember being in a place that was this clean. She looked down at herself, noting the long pants, whose original color was no longer attainable from the years of being worn around in the dirtiest places. Small holes dotted the dirty brown pants; the bottoms were torn from repeatedly being stepped on by her bare feet. Her shirt nearly showed the same kind of wear, the faded blue that it once was, was barely visible under the brown dirt. Her hair was nearly the only thing that did not show the browns of dirt, though that is because it was black. Even though the black hair hid the dirt that was no doubly here, it was still messy and unkempt. It was cut short, along her ears in an uneven way. The hair also, in some places stuck up oddly, adding to its untidiness.
Now, being a bit self-conscious of her dirty appearance, compared to the near room, Sakti sat down on one of the cushions. Her eyes rested on the door, noting how even though it was plain, it was still nice, possibly from not showing any signs of wear. There she sat, wondering what will become of her fate.
