chromatography is a technique used to seperate mixtures based on adsorption differences among a mixture's components
the mobile phase is the liquid used to seperate the mixture
the sationary phase is the kind of paper used to place the mixture on so that it doesn't get mixtured up in the mobile phase
Our conclusion is that Mr. S's daughter, wife and attorny(...-.- should probably check the spelling...sorry) are all innocent because none of them matched the pink trail that the lipstick at the crime scene had.

October 14, 1929 Dear Dairy, The clock just strike 10 at night as I started to write this. I am writing this to hopefully calm myself so that I could fall asleep. Today has been a terrible day and a confusing one. My dad has been freaking out about the stock market and the pieces that were quickly going down. He went to sell his stocks and had a hard time even getting into the building to sell them because the crowd was so thick. When he did sell his stocks, the piece drop of them was huge! According to my dad, we lost a couple of thousand dollars and because that, we are now in a debt. My dad is also worried sick about his business and hoping that this wouldn’t effect it, but my dad doubt that it won’t.
Augest 18, 1932 Dear Dairy, Sorry that I haven't written in a while...a long while no less but things have been awful. My dad's shop has closed, leaving us with no income and in debt. My father has be trying to find work and here and there he was able to find a small job that barely lasted a day. We won't able to pay the rant on our apartment and thus we were evicted. By some mircle a friend of my mom was able to get us a small apartment with a cheaper rant. But this apartment is beyond pitiful. It's always dark and it holds this sorrowful atomsphere to it. My mom has also been looking for a job, and so I'm left with watching my 6year old brother, which is a pain at times. Though I also feel sorry for him. The other day was his birthday and we didn't have enough money to even buy anything to make a birthday cake for him.
The landlord came to our apartment today. He wants us to pay all of the rent that we've missed...my father doesn't think we'll be able to...and especailly not by next week...I've seen those shakes built in the city park, they called all of those shakes Hooverville...is my family destine to live there too?...and with winter coming...this is awful...

Appreciated Gifts
For the company you are visiting, quality pens, tasteful office items with your company logo, or imported liquor are usually safe choices.
Fine chocolates can also be an appropriate gift when you are invited to a home.
If you decide to bring alcohol, a good imported liquor is the safest choice.
You can also bring a wine of excellent vintage from your home country or an exceptional imported red wine. A gift of German wine, however, should then be a more upmarket label.
If you are staying with a family, good gift selections can include coffee table books about your home country, or anything that reflects the interests of your hosts and is representative of your country.
An elegant, tasteful silk scarf can be an acceptable gift for the lady of the house.
A local food speciality of your home country is usually a good idea for a gift, provided it is not too exotic. Keep in mind that German tastes are generally on the conservative side, so especially for older hosts, very unusual food gifts may well be under-appreciated.
Gifts to Avoid
Red roses are for lovers; lilies are used in funerals. A general rule would be to avoid including heather in a bouquet as it is commonly planted in cemeteries.
Clothing, perfumes, and other toiletries are considered far too personal to be appropriate gifts. Scarves, however, are acceptable gifts according to German business protocol.
Avoid bringing beer as a gift, since many of the finest brands in the world are already produced and widely available here.
The fact-oriented thinking is, “since I don't know this person, there is no relationship, so there is no need to get into superficial pleasantries”
The most common toasts are “Zum Wohl!” [with wine] and “Prost!” [with beer], both of which generally mean a wish for good health. When making a toast, it is important to maintain direct eye contact from the time the glass is raised, until it is placed back on the table. If many people are being toasted, make eye contact with each individual around the table as you make the toast. This rule becomes even more important to remember as you move west to east through Germany
Wie geht es Ihnen?” [“How are you?”] will get a literal answer, it's not a form of hi
Welcome Topics of Conversation
Sports, particularly soccer [the national sport]
Travel, recent holidays
Current events, politics [if you know what you're talking about]
Work and professions
Your previous experiences and travels in Germany and other parts of Europe [just make sure you know your geography!]
Among those who imbibe, beer is often a good topic of conversation. Germany produces some of the finest beers in the world, and seasoned drinkers enjoy comparing and contrasting the qualities of the various brews available.
Topics to Avoid
World War II/the Holocaust [although sometimes you will be surprised at how openly and frankly Germans of all ages will make reference to or comment on their history]
Personal questions [especially salary, cost of personal objects] among people you don't know or know well, especially in a business environment [work and family life are usually kept separate]

The discovery of Sulfanilamide greatly affected the mortality rate during World War II. Penicillin, was, and is, one of the most active and safe antibacterial available. Because of their effectiveness and large therapeutic index, penicillin and many closely related derivatives, collectively known as the PENICILLINS, and the closely related CEPHALOSPORINS (discovered in the 1960s) are among the most important families of antibacterial available today. Recognizing the potential of the Pfizer process for producing penicillin and desperate for massive quantities to aid in the war effort, the U.S. government authorized 19 companies to produce the antibiotic using Pfizer's deep-tank fermentation techniques, which Pfizer had agreed to share with its competitors. Many of these companies could not come close to Pfizer's production levels and quality. Ultimately Pfizer produced 90 percent of the penicillin that went ashore with Allied forces at Normandy on D-Day in 1944 and more than half of all the penicillin used by the Allies for the rest of the war, helping to save countless lives synthetic drug invented by a German researcher before the war was distributed to American troops stationed on the South Pacific islands. This drug was sold under the name of Atabrine. Complaints against the yellow pills became common. Atabrine was bitter, appeared to impart its own sickly hue to the skin. Some of its side effects were headaches, nausea, and vomiting, and in a few cases it produced a temporary psychosis. Plasma is the liquid portion of the blood--a protein-salt solution in which red and white blood cells and platelets are suspended Plasma, which is 90 percent water, constitutes 55 percent of blood volume. Plasma contains albumin (the chief protein constituent), fibrinogen (responsible, in part, for the clotting of blood), and globulins (including antibodies). serves a variety of functions, from maintaining a satisfactory blood pressure and volume to supplying critical proteins for blood clotting and immunity. serves as the medium of exchange for vital minerals such as sodium and potassium, thus helping maintain a proper balance in the body, which is critical to cell function Dr. Charles Drew discovery that blood plasma could replace whole blood, which deteriorated in a few days in storage Because of its ability to reduce death from shock caused by bleeding, dried plasma became a vital element used as a pain killer, morphine morphine syrette, which was like a miniature toothpaste tube that contained the morphine A needle attached to the syrette was used by the medic to puncture the seal. The medic would come along, break the seal and inject the wounded soldier with the morphine syrette. www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/united_states/usa_blank2.jpg

Nixon: Voting age is lowered to 18 First passed as a law(1970) that required states to change voting age for all elections but that would cost too much, so the 26 amendment was made, giving the right to vote for all 18-21 years old. (1971) US invades Cambodia April-June 1970 US invades Cambodia during the Vietnam War, because there were some believes that there might be a Vietnam communist base there. Nixon gave the order to do so with out congress constant. Because of the invading, Cambodia ending up having many years of civil war.
US lowers the value of the dollar 1971 At first, for one ounce of gold cost 35$, however since a major inflation happen because of other countries demands for the dollar to be printed to be able to buy and sell stuff. The dollar first then changed to 38$ per ounce of gold, then 42.22$ per ounce of gold. The Bretton Wood agreement made after WWII kept the dollar at a fix rate of 35$ per ounce of gold and other countries fix currency because of the unstable economic at the time. Since the US was viewed as the most stable, more of the countries brought products at first and then when their economics became productive, the US started to buy more stuff then it was selling.
People’s republic of china is admitted to united nations US after first didn’t want communist china in UN but then at 1971 said that we wouldn’t stop them form getting it but then Taiwan was expelled from the UN.

The business that I am doing is a video game store. I came up with the idea by first talking to a friend of mine that suggested doing a bookstore or an anime store. After thinking for a short while, I realized that an anime store would be a bit hard since the market would be small. However, since I liked the idea, I thought of stuff that would be sold there, anime movies, mangas, and games. Thus I came up with the idea to do a video game store, including all genres of games. The name of the store will be Virtual TWH. I had help coming up with the name, and changed one of the suggestions that a friend gave me. There are a couple of reasons why I picked that name. The word virtual usually refers to video games and related things, such as virtual reality. TWH are letters referring to one of my nicknames thus showing my ownership of it. The major products of the store would be anything related to video games. Video games (PC games included), game systems such as X-Box 360, Playstation 3, Wii, Gameboy DS, Gameboy SP N64, PS2, X-Box and other outdated ones that would be sold as used, game controllers for the systems, memory cards, cords and strategy guides for games. Also, we will buy old used games and then resell them at a lower price. The services that would be offer are being able to test out a game before buying it, using one of the company owned game systems. Having people around that play games and know games for any questions about the games. Of course, being able to buy the stuff that is needed. Also, tournaments for games will be set up, so customers could come and play a certain game against other people to see who is the best. At first the company will be a sole proprietor. I would be the manager and ran the business taking in all the risk. That is because anyone that I could partner up with would not know how to run a business that or would not want to run a risk. The strengths are that the store sells a popular product. Also, if a new game system or game is coming out, costumers would be able to buy it before it hits the market, thus not having to worry about it getting sold out. Since other similar companies do that too, this is a strength because it will bring more customers in that might not have been able to prepay one at one of the other companies. The weaknesses are that the store sells products that are usually expansive, so since the business is small the price for the games will be even higher. That until we get own, we won’t get that much costumers. The short-term goal is to stay alive and not go out of business and to get a good customer base. The long term is getting the company so that it will run by it self and be self-efficient.
Customer Profile for Virtual TWH · Male and female · Enjoys Video games · Average Household income: $42,000 per year · Has access to electronics · Ages from 10-30 · Want a place to hang out and play video games against different people Market Research Survey Thank you for participating in this market research survey. It is greatly appreciated that you took your time to help identify the ways to help Virtual TWH. Circle one for each question 1) Age: 13 and under 13-18 18-20 20- 25 25-30 30 and older 2) Gender: Male Female 3) Annual Household income: less then $25,000 $25,001-$50,000 $50,001-$100,000 more than $100,000 4) Which game system do you prefer: X-box(360) Wii PS3 GameboyDS(SP) other________________________ 5) When you buy a game, do you prefer to buy it? Yes no at times 9) How much would you pay for a new game? $10-$20 $20-$30 $30-$40 $40-$50 $50-$60 $60+ 10) How much should the price of used games be different from the price of new games? 5% 10% 15% 20% 25% 30% 40% 50% not listed_____ depends on the game Fish Philosophy Choosing your attitude won’t be that hard to do when working in a video game store. The environment of the store would be relax and there will always be room to play there, so forgetting about worries or just not thinking about them would be easy. The employs would be able to actually play the video games when there are not that many customers that need help. Also the employs would be able to show the customers the game by playing it. There will also be a weekly tournament going on, in one of the games that keep score. So the highest person with the score will win. For be there, the employ and customer would be able to play against each other on a certain game to test out the game to see if that is what the customer really wants. Also, the employs will know about different game systems and different game, so that they would be able to give accurate recommendation for the games to the customer. Making their day could be from anything as giving random free discount cards to them for no charge when they buy a certain game. Or playing a game with them and teaching them how to play effectively. Perks for employees The employees themselves would be able to get discount for certain games or even get them for free depending on their performance during their job or the amount of tournaments won. Once every four months, the top 5 people who won most of the employ’s tournaments would be able to choose a game of their choice. For those who enjoy video games but aren’t that good at them, there would also be prizes for them, simple ones such as ‘worked the hardest’, ‘employ of the month’ and other related titles. One last thing is that employs would be able to borrow certain used game form anywhere to a day to a week, so that they would be able to play them at their home. Risks The first risk would be an employ stealing a new game. Thievery can be prevented, by informing the employs what would happen if they steal. Another way is to randomly check the bags of the employs when they leave. If an employ does steal, then the employ will be fired and put on a blacklist. The blacklist being a list of people that have stolen from the store, and will not be allowed in if they have been caught twice, and prevents them from getting a job there. Charges will only be press if the person tries to steal multiple times or if the person gets violent. Anyone under the age of 18 will have their parents called.

Klein, Gerda Weissmann. All But My Life. New York: HarperCollins, 1995.
The book All But My Life is a strong piece of holocaust literature. The author, Gerda wiessmann Klein, is a holocaust survivor who was only about fifteen years of age when Germany began to invade Poland and intrude upon the freedoms of the Jewish people in her home town. She made it through several Nazi concentration camps including Sosnowitz, Bolkenhein, Marzdorf, Landshut, and Gruenberg before being liberated in 1945 by the United States Army in Czechoslovakia. This gives the book a Jewish perspective of the events of the Holocaust. Klein has also written three other books: The Hours After: Letters of Love and Longing in War's Aftermath, A Boring Evening At Home, and The Promise Of A New Spring. All But My Life goes through the life of the author from the time she was fifteen when the Germans invaded Poland, to when she gained her freedom and the war ended. The book follows how the war effected her family and those she knew. Klein’s writing portrays the horrors of the Holocaust and the hardships Jewish people had to endure during that time period. The book adequately shows the horrors faced by the Jewish community during the time of the holocaust through the authors own experiences. From the start, it shows the gradual decline in freedoms as the Jews were restricted from civil liberties and given limitations such as curfews and short rations of food which made life hard. The Germans stripped the Jewish people of rights even in their own home, even forbidding them from doing certain things on their own land such as walk through their garden for fresh air. (45) The brutality of the Germans towards the Jewish people is shown in the book as well. Within a letter, a friend of Klein’s speaks of the horrific crimes the Germans committed. “...those that remained alive had to march naked outside the town. They had to dig their own grave and stand on the rim until a hail of bullets killed them.” (69) The brutality of the concentration camps is portrayed as well. A guard threatened and physically beat thirty girl’s to find out who threw one piece of bread. (174) Through out the book countless displays of cruelty and hardship are shown, contradicting those who have believed the holocaust never really happened. All But My Life is an exceptional book. The emotion and feeling in the way it’s written draws in the reader, giving a first hand account of what went on during the holocaust. It helps the reader to understand how it must have felt to go through such a horrible ordeal. It is written in a fashion that captures the readers attention from the first page to the very last. The account of what happened to Klein, shows the cruelty dealt with by the Nazi’s during World War II, showing the fear and pain it caused, along with the bravery and will to survive that rose to the surface in many. It gives a clear and precise recollection of the events that took place during the authors experiences. It is easy to read and pay attention to, despite a few occurrences of German dialogue, where what is being said is not quiet explained right away. All But My Life is aimed towards young adults and older readers. It enforces the opinions of those who feel that Germany was wrong when it came to what they did during World War II and sympathize with the Jewish people who suffered from Nazi cruelty.

On changing the World Emily Jensen
Through out the movie, alcohol addiction was showed several times. Alcohol was the reason why Mr. Simmonett ran away from his home when he was a kid and then later get the burns from being set on fire by his dad who was drunk. It was what Trevor’s mom used to deal with her problems. Trevor’s dad drank and caused him to get violent. Lastly, Trevor’s grandma also drank, causing a lot of problems for Trevor’s mom. Such problems were, described by the mom as “what the guys did when she wasn’t looking” and almost becoming homeless when she was a kid. In health, we learned how people drown their problems in alcohol; use it to get away from real life, to relax. Also, that some people just have an addicting personality. That alcoholism is a very hard addiction to break and needs support from all around, and a wanting to change yourself to break it. That people under the influence of alcohol tend to make horrible decisions and have bad tempers. I have seen people that are drunk and have seen how they act different. One of my uncles has been addicted to alcohol and has gone through a lot to try to break the addiction. Even with the help of his family it was a hard habit to break.
Bullying was shown in the movie about three times. First in the beginning of the movie when the three kids surrounded that one kid that Trevor is going to plan to help. Nothing much happened then, but during the second time, Trevor tried to help the same kid but became too scared and the kid got thrown into a dumpster. The last time was when the little kid was getting beaten up because one of the bullies were accusing him to of telling someone something, possibly about the knife that he has. In health, I saw that most people got bullied during at least one point of their lives, about nearly anything, hair, height, weight, religion and other things. That bullying is something that goes on all the time, with friends, family and enemies. That to help get rid of bullying, people need to be speak up for the person getting bullied. The connection isn’t anything that I have been through but what I have been around to learn about. Cho, the shooter at Virginia Tech, was reported to have been bullied for a couple of things when he first came to the US. Also, the story that was told to us by Mrs. Duncan about the kid that was homeless during a period of time and then got a cross burned onto his back. I have been bullied myself but nothing that could accurately connect to what happened with the movie, with how Trevor lost his life.
The whole movie is basically based off taking care of each other. That is what Pay It Forward is. Someone helps you, so you go and help three other people that can’t do something big on their own. That the community looks out for each other. That they don’t get paid back, that they don’t expect to do a good thing and then be rewarded by it. Taking care of each other was when of the class room rules/expectation.
